The Eternal Children

I’ve been revisiting old sources of inspiration.. people and music and art I fell in love with at a time when I was beginning to cultivate my own personal style and set of  beliefs.  A friend turned me on to this documentary about 5 years ago, and I remember watching it once every few months for years.

The Eternal Children follows Cocorosie, Antony and the Johnsons, Vashti Bunyan, and Devendra Banhart as they play their music and speak about their love for each other.  I loved this documentary so much, because I was (and still am) very attracted to people who are so creatively free.  The lack of inhibition fills their work with an energy that I am really drawn toward.

“For us, we are connecting to and honoring that which is very innate in the child. It is a freedom of spirit, and it’s a lack of inhibition, and it’s being able to live purely in the moment, and to be creatively available in each moment … As a lot of people grow out of childhood, they abandon that part of themselves … For us, it’s not necessarily “childlike.” It’s just something children know.”
- Bianca Casady

“We all want to be free, and to dance through the space, and to feel that flight, and to feel that sense of abandon in our lives.”
-Antony Hegarty
